Research programme
Research areas
My work is organised around a common question: how does disadvantage develop, persist and affect wellbeing over time?
I use longitudinal data and applied econometric methods to study health, mental health, disability, labour-market outcomes and household disadvantage. Across these areas, I am particularly interested in persistence, inequality, access to services and the distributional consequences of economic and policy change.
Health & Mental Health Economics
My research examines socioeconomic inequalities in mental health, access to psychiatric care, health-related quality of life and the economic consequences of poor mental health. A recurring focus is how disadvantage develops and persists over time in Australia.
Selected work
- Socioeconomic mental health disparities and income mobility in Australia Economic Analysis and Policy, 2024
- Inequity in psychiatric healthcare use in Australia Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology, 2023
- Mental health status of Australian youth using longitudinal data PLOS ONE, 2022
Labour & Disability Economics
I study employment, wellbeing and economic disadvantage among people with disability, with particular attention to persistence over time rather than single-period outcomes. Current work asks whether long-term employment disadvantage is concentrated among a smaller group experiencing repeated or prolonged non-employment.
Selected work

- Job satisfaction dynamics and employment mode choice for people with disability Heliyon, 2022
- Disability, physical activity and health-related quality of life PLOS ONE, 2022
Applied Econometrics & Policy Evaluation
My empirical work primarily uses longitudinal and panel data to study changes within individuals and households over time. Methodological interests include causal inference, fixed-effects and related panel approaches, distributional decomposition, inequality measurement and policy-relevant evaluation.
Selected work

- Price and income elasticities of cigarette smoking demand in Bangladesh Nicotine & Tobacco Research, 2022
- Dynamic relationship among environmental regulation, innovation, CO2 emissions, population, and economic growth in OECD countries: A panel investigation Journal of Cleaner Production, 2019
Energy & Environmental Economics
My energy research focuses on household energy affordability, energy poverty, residential energy expenditure and the distributional consequences of the net-zero transition. I am particularly interested in how energy disadvantage intersects with health, mental health and broader socioeconomic inequality.
